Primary 1 Math for October - Picture Graphs

Updated: Feb 3, 2023

Here's what students can expect for Primary 1 Math for the month of October.

For October, P1 students will be doing Picture Graphs, where students will have to read and interpret data from the picture graphs.

The picture graphs can be in both vertical and horizontal forms:

What would be the concepts taught?

Students will learn terms such as ‘most, least, greatest, smallest, as much as and as many as, popular’ etc. Questions such as ‘how many more, how many fewer, what is the total’ will also be taught.

What are the common mistakes made by P1 students?

The common mistake made by students would be looking at the wrong data to answer the question.

What can parents do to help?

Parents can encourage their child to count and write down the number for the respective data and also to write it down in the question itself. Highlighting key words in the questions also helps to reduce careless mistakes.

Let’s look at a concept that is often tested all the way up to P6

Just that at P1, Pictures are given to help students answer the question.
