Here's what students can expect for Primary 2 Math for the month of September.
For the month of September, P2 students will be doing Time and Volume.
Let’s look at one topic: Time first. What would be the concepts taught?
P2 Time is a continuation from P1 Time. At P2, Students will learn to tell the time to 5 minutes. For Eg: 5.35, 12.10 and so on.
They will also learn when to use a.m. and p.m.
They will learn to write hour as h and minutes as min.
Lastly, they will also learn to find the duration of 1 h or half hour. For Eg: what is 1 h after 7 p.m. ? Which of the following programmes last for half an hour?
What are the common mistakes made by P2 students for time?
Some Students are confused with the a.m. and p.m. of 12.
As they remember a.m. as morning and p.m. as night. Tips: We can get them to remember 12 noon as 12 p.m. and we use p.m. form noon onwards.
12 midnight is 12 a.m. and we use a.m. form midnight onwards.
What can parents do to help?
Parents can help to reinforce their practice in their daily life by asking their child what time is it now? Or how long was the TV programme?
What about the other topic: Volume? What would be the concepts taught?
Volume is a new topic for P2 students. They learn that Volume is the measure of the amount of liquid. Other than comparing and ordering volumes, they also have simple word problems involving volume.
